As Miami's vibrant culture catches more international attention, more big name architects are seeking out opportunities to get their foot in the door - and recently Miami seems to generously create them. This time around, Zaha Hadid brings her hot curves to equal the notorious Miami heat. The $12.5 million project brings a car park (glorified term for parking garage) to Collins Park in Miami Beach - a few minutes from Frank Gehry's New World Symphony.
The proposed five story parking garage changes how parking garages are considered even though the formal program and massing. While the design is another generic anomaly of curves and floating planes typical of Hadid, it does change how we perceive how we park and store our vehicles. While I am less impressed by Hadid's work here, I am excited for the direction that Miami is headed in designed space down to the details.
